Job Summary:
Looking for individual(s) to work Saturdays and/or Sundays at the West Allis West Milwaukee Recreation Department. This position is responsible for cleaning floors, the gym, the walking track, classrooms, offices, stairwells, and restrooms to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Facility Support is responsible for the cleanliness of assigned areas and maintaining these spaces. This position includes room set ups and take downs and is responsible for the safety and security of the building.  

Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, Facility Support is responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the building as a whole. The work requires a degree of initiative since Facility Support is expected to work independently in the performance of normal work activities. Instructions are received from the Head Custodian on matters of policy, procedures, and new assignments. The Head Custodian and/or the Assistant Director of Facilities will give routine instructions. Performance feedback is received through review of methods and results. 

Duties:
  • Routine housekeeping and sanitation of used/occupied areas.  
  • Typical duties will be sweep, mop, scrub floors and other surfaces; clean and dust furniture, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings; use of a walk behind floor scrubbing machine; clean and service bathrooms; move furniture for room set ups and take downs; setting up equipment in the gym (Volleyball nets, Pickleball nets, etc.); collect and dispose of paper and refuse; exterior garbage pick up and disposal; shoveling and salting when needed; and any related work that is required.  
  • Facility Support will be required to open and close the building. This includes ensuring windows and doors are closed, locked, and arming the building by setting the security alarm.  
  • Personnel performing work in this classification are assigned to Saturdays and/or Sundays and required to work first and sometimes second shift hours (Can vary between 7am-7pm depending on programming that day).

Desirable knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • A working knowledge of principles, materials, methods and procedures used in general building cleaning.  
  • Ability to work independently, with little to no supervision; knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices, able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, and have a helpful and friendly disposition, representing the department positively to the community.

High School Diploma or equivalent
